Ace Holiday Round Up

Nov 16, 2023 | 12:00 AM

Ace customers like the reward of transformation. The ability to build, create and improve. That’s why the helpful place makes it easy to create lasting change, including how Children’s Nebraska, a member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, cares for kids.

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be easy to forget about the kids spending time at the hospital. Children’s hospitals are on the frontlines providing the treatments and cures patients desperately need, but they cannot do it alone.

Round up at Ace Hardware this holiday season! Your donation benefits Children’s Nebraska unlocking a world of possibilities. It ensures children can lead healthy, fulfilling lives while also fostering the builders and creators of tomorrow.

During this season, we reflect on the time that has passed and the positive change we can offer to those around us in the coming year. Children’s hospitals bring joy and spread holiday hope for kids – and you can too! Round up at participating Ace Hardware locations this holiday season to support your local children’s hospital so they can continue to create a strong foundation for future generations.

Patients like Holden benefit from the critical funds raised by Ace Hardware for Children’s Nebraska. Holden’s mom, Ashley, shares Holden’s story below (edited for brevity):

Until the day he became sick at two-weeks-old, we did not know Holden had a heart condition. He had become ill and, on the way to the doctor’s office for what we thought was the flu, he began crying uncontrollably and threw up. His skin had taken on a gray hue, and I knew something was not right.

Since it was the end of the day, our normal doctor was heading out the door. The nurse and I were undressing Holden and noticed that his feet had turned a purplish-blue. The doctor overseeing our appointment took one look at Holden and immediately called for our doctor, asking him not to leave and requesting oxygen. Once our doctor entered the room, he listened to Holden’s heart and asked the nurse to call 911.

At the hospital, I watched people come in and out of the little emergency room he was taken into and felt completely helpless as they hooked him up to machines that were bigger than his body. Not even five minutes later, they called code as his heart had stopped. They told us that they had done compressions for 30 seconds and, while he was stable, they said he may not make it. I relive that moment regularly. Holden was then transferred to Children’s in Omaha for more specialized care.

It turned out that Holden had a Coarctation of the Aorta and a hole in his heart. He underwent his first surgery at 16-days-old. Because of the discoveries made by his surgeons, which was the only surgery he has ever needed. We are beyond grateful for the team at Children’s.

We go back biannually for checkups, but as of today, Holden is a happy, healthy and energetic sixth grader. He has no restrictions other than a 50lb weight limit, and he participates in baseball, basketball, and football as the quarterback! Our care team at Children’s was so comforting in this incredibly scary time. During Holden’s visit, his grandfather was at Methodist across the street, and the team always checked in with us to see how he was doing as well.

Bring change this holiday season, round up today! All funds stay local to help kids like Holden.

Together, we see what the future can be and are working to make it a reality. Because when we change kids’ health, we change the future – for all of us.
