Nebraska sweeps Texas State to begin NCAA Tournament

By News Apr 15, 2021 | 4:23 PM

Nebraska volleyball played like a team that had missed the court for 19 days.

Between the Penn State matches being canceled and the layoff between Selection Sunday and the NCAA Volleyball Tournament beginning, the fifth seeded Huskers (15-2) had one of the longer stretches without a match. The rust wasn’t there enough to derail them against Texas State in the second round Thursday.

Nebraska hit a season-best .398 to dominate the match in a sweep 25-18, 17, 20.

Lauren Stivrins didn’t commit an error until her tenth swing, notching 10 kills and hitting .571 in just two sets. Madi Kubik led the Huskers with 13 kills on .407 hitting. Jazz Sweet was error free with eight kills on .400 hitting.

Nicklin Hames racked up 43 assists on the afternoon.

Nebraska will play the 12-seed Baylor Sunday. The Huskers are 31-0 against the Bears all-time, though the teams last met back in 2010 when both schools were members of the Big 12.
