Blankets On The Wall And Frozen Pipes

It’s come to this…… Jenny and I hung blankets on the walls in our storage room to try to warm things up. The walls are concrete block with no insulation. There is ice on the inside of the walls. And we found a couple cracks between bricks that we could see outside through. I pushed some expanding foam into those as a temporary hold.
It’s also the room where all the water and gas pipes enter the house. Now, I had insulated all the pipes, but missed a small section that feeds hot water to the kitchen sink and dishwasher. We’re pretty sure that’s frozen because the kitchen hot water stopped running yesterday. Cold water works, but no hot water. Jenny spent the greater part of yesterday trying to warm the pipes with a hair dryer. We also ran a large space heater in that room for 13 hours or so. But, it’s like taking a garden hose to a forest fire. So, blankets on the walls for now, insulation on the pipes, heater back on when we get home if we’re not being rolled in the blackout, and we’re going to try some heat tape as soon as I can get my hands on some.
