Garden Update!

By News Aug 13, 2020 | 10:09 AM

OK…..it’s not like I haven’t grown vegetables before, BUT, thanks to many of you here I am having success with my backyard garden….small as it is!  A few weeks ago I had some bunnies invading my garden and helping themselves, mostly to my pepper plants and asked for your help on keeping the critters away from my produce. And you all came through for me with great suggestions, which I put to work for me. Now I’m happy to report success!

Like I said, its not like I haven’t had a garden before, but it’s been quite a few years.  Anyways I have been keeping things watered and weeded and I was like a little kid Monday when I was making my inspection and found TWO pumpkins starting on my pumpkin plant…..its about 12 feet long!  And, not only that….I have a cucumber starting on my cucumber plant!  Y’know, it’s the little things in life that make us happy, right?  I was genuinely EXCITED to head into the house and tell the family that I had pumpkins and cucumbers starting!  Anyways….no fruit (if that’s what its called)….on the one pepper plant I have left (after the attack of the bunnies) and my tomato plants are growing tall and strong with several flowers/buds but no indication of fruit yet!  Can’t wait to harvest the tomatoes and peppers to make some homemade salsa!

Does anybody know of any place in town that still has some starter vegetable plants?  I have a couple spots that I was thinking of adding a plant or two.  Maybe onion? Cilantro?  Any suggestions on something easy to cultivate that I should/could add?  I am not wanting something that takes a ton of care…..you know….watering, weeding and keeping an eye on the plants is about MY speed.  Let me know…..and THANKS AGAIN for all the suggestions a few weeks ago!
