By News Jun 24, 2020 | 12:14 PM

A 12-year-old is arrested after stealing a truck, ramming a police cruiser, and running from police.

Officer Erin Spilker reports that just before 6 a.m Wednesday, officers were called to the Folsom Ridge Apartments 701 Folsom Lane on reports of a group of people committing vandalism.

When officers arrived, they witnessed a group of juveniles running from the area as well as Black Toyota Tundra sitting in front of a nearby garage.

“As officers were checking the area for the juveniles, they observed the Toyota Tundra driving at a high rate of speed through the apartment complex parking lot,” said Spilker. “The vehicle struck a police cruiser in the lot, causing front-end damage.”

The truck continued until hitting a tree near SW 8th and Darren Ave a short time later, at which point witnesses reported a juvenile driver fled from the vehicle.

An officer soon located a juvenile matching a description provided by the witness and, after a foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended.

The owner of the Toyota Tundra was located and reported that his vehicle had been stolen from the 1500 block of SW 11th Street.

The juvenile was identified as the driver at the time of the accident and was referred and turned over to Cedars for Theft by Receiving, two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Minor in Possession of Alcohol, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Willful Reckless Driving.

The Toyota Tundra had to be towed due to the damage.

Another juvenile, 14-years-old, was also located in the area and referred for vandalism.

Investigators are also looking into whether nine larcenies reported in 1900 block of SW 27th Street are related to the incident.

This investigation is on-going and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600.
