LPD: Man Arrested For Striking Protester With Vehicle Saturday

By News Jun 5, 2020 | 10:38 AM

An arrest has been made in a weekend incident where a vehicle ran into a protestor on O Street.

Lincoln Police Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said that officers responded to the 2500 block of O Street around 2:15 a.m Saturday, May 30th, on reports of a motor vehicle collision where a protest sustained non-life threatening injuries.

“As officers were attempting to investigate this incident, a crowd of individuals gathered around the scene and prevented the officers from conducting and completing their investigation at this time,” said Bonkiewicz.

After a few days, officers were eventually able to conclude 27-year-old Trevor Kurtz was responsible for 2nd -degree assault.

“According to witness statements and video evidence, Kurtz drove into a pedestrian, knocking her to the ground,” said Bonkiewicz. “He then backed up, drove around the pedestrian he struck, then called LPD to report an accident.”

After developing the probable cause, Kurtz was arrested early Friday morning.
