Volunteers Shave Their Heads to Support Childhood Cancer Research
Firespring, along with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, will host a head-shaving event at The Railyard on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in solidarity with kids with cancer to raise money and awareness for lifesaving children’s cancer research. This year’s event goal is to raise more than $20,000 in donations and have at least 50 volunteer shavees. This is the fifth annual St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser in Lincoln, NE. Last year’s event had 39 shavees and raised $25,000 toward childhood cancer research. Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. With only 4% of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation grant funds are critical to continue the battle against this devasting disease.
