Heavy Rains Causing Flash Flooding – Urban Street Flooding Occurring in Lincoln

The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for…Central Lancaster County in southeastern Nebraska…* Until 815 AM CDT.

* At 509 AM CDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding is already occurring in Lincoln. Over 2 inches of rain had fallen, and more thunderstorms moving in from the west could drop another inch of rain.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include… Lincoln, Waverly, Conestoga State Recreation Area and Pawnee State Recreation Area.

This includes Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 390 and 412.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

At least 2-vehicles were stalled in high water shortly before 5:30 am on Northbound 84th just South of O Street.
